Trauma Aid / Humanitarian Assistance Program Germany e.V. (HAP-Germany) is a non-profit organization that was founded by an initiative of experienced Trauma- and EMDR – Therapists. It modelled after the example of the EMDR-HAP (Humanitarian Assistance Program) initiative that is supported by Francine Shapiro, working internationally in crisis areas but also on a national level, offering non-profit trainings in EMDR and in treatment of trauma victims.

The German organization, Trauma Aid / HAP Germany, and other European partner organizations engage in discussion and exchanges through the platform of HAP-Europe in wanting to train psychotherapists in countries where the financial and personal support is still not sufficient to train therapists in psychotraumatology and EMDR.

We want to give victims of natural catastrophies, man – made disasters, violence in all forms of traumatization the opportunity to regain emotional stability and mental health by education, necessary psychological intervention, trainings, and research in achieving a breakthrough in the circle of violence.

An important principle for a good choice and planning of Trauma Aid / HAP project is a good cooperation with colleagues in the cooperating countries as well as local health workers and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs). They will function as multipliers in their country, either as trainers or supervisors. They will also have an academic career and / or collaborate with local universities or non-profit organizations, as we want to use our fund in an efficacious way within the non-profit setting.

We are offering trainings specifically in Psychotraumatology and teach therapist the necessary knowledge of supporting on the emotional level continuously in a long term way to cope with traumatic experiences in their home country. Part of this is continuous education / training and supervision after the end of the initial trainings.
