Trauma Aid trains trauma therapists in Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia The project for the treatment of traumatized victims of the South Asian Tsunami in Aceh/Indonesia was the pioneering project. Now Trauma Aid trains trauma therapists in Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia. Numerous people in these countries suffer from domestic violence, sexual abuse, military conflicts or natural disasters. It is mostly women and children who are affected. The main objective of the project is to establish a training program for therapists in the Mekong region. They in turn shall be able to treat traumatic disturbances in patients by using primarily but not solely the EMDR method. The training and therapies comply with international standards for the treatment of trauma patients and will also be embedded in local health programs. Local partner in the Mekong region is the non-profit association of Indonesian psychologists, Himpsi Jaya. The project started in January 2011 and will end in December 2013. Terre des hommes Germany and the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (Germany) fund it with an amount of 1.7 million Euros. |
